PORTLAND – Maraka Soule and Rebecca Roberts scored Saturday as South Portland upset Cheverus 2-0 in a Southern Maine Activities Association field hockey game.

It was the first victory for the Red Riots (1-4) and the first loss for the Stags (5-1), who were the top-ranked team in Western Class A.

Lani Edwards made 16 saves for South Portland.

MASSABESIC 4, MCAULEY 0: Alex Staples and a goal and an assist as Massabesic (4-2) downed McAuley (2-4) at Waterboro.

Staples set up Jackie Guillemette with the first goal at 23:38. Nikki Kent added a second score three minutes before the half.

Staples scored on a penalty corner six minutes into the second half and Logan Provencher added the final goal midway through the half.

Courtney Picone recorded the shutout with seven saves.

THORNTON ACADEMY 1, BONNY EAGLE 0: Katie Campisi scored from Katrina Thibodeau as the Trojans (3-1-1) edged the Scots (3-3) at Saco.

Rebecca Coney made seven saves for Bonny Eagle.

BELFAST 2, CAMDEN HILLS 0: Lauren Rice scored both goals for Belfast (4-2) against the Windjammers (3-3) at Camden.

Ashland Hall set up Rice’s first goal with 10:13 left in the first half. Brooklyn Curry assisted on the second-half goal at 25:20.

Paxton Mahoney made three saves for the shutout. Sarah Nason stopped six shots for Camden Hills.

GORHAM 1, SANFORD 0: Elena Barnes scored off a penalty stroke with three minutes remaining in the first half to lead the Rams (3-3) over the Redskins (2-3) at Gorham.

Patty Smith made seven saves for Gorham. Sarah Stanley had seven saves for Sanford.

CONY 2, MT. ARARAT 1: Nicole Rugan and Chelsea Begin scored 1:24 apart late in the second half as the Rams (3-4) rallied past Mt. Ararat (3-4) at Topsham.

Rugan tied it from Jenna Harwood with 7:48 to play. Begin gave the Rams the win with 6:24 to play from Rugan.

Raven Demasi made 23 saves for Mt. Ararat. Asia Le also had 23 saves for Cony.

GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 3, LAKE REGION 1: Taylor Darnell had a goal and an assist to pace the Patriots (2-2-1) past Lake Region (1-5) at Gray.

Maggie Chaplin gave the Patriots the lead after less than five minutes off a through ball from Haylee Cote. Darnell scored on a free kick at 27:35 for a 2-0 edge.

After Do Leckie dribbled around the keeper and scored to the lower left corner in the first minute of the second half, Darnell crossed the ball to Julia Martell for the final goal in the 54th minute.

MEDOMAK VALLEY 3, LINCOLN ACADEMY 0: Alanna Vose and Roxanne Jelenfy scored second-half goals as Medomak Valley (3-2) beat Lincoln Academy (0-4-1) at Waldoboro.

The Panthers took a 1-0 lead with 1:32 left in the opening half when Julie Ennamorati scored unassisted.

Amanda Hendrickson-Belloguet made two saves for the shutout.

MARANACOOK 5, CAMDEN HILLS 3: Katie Dore scored twice to lead Maranacook (4-2) over the Windjammers (5-1) at Rockport.

The Black Bears led 3-2 at the half on goals by Sydney Gilbert, Dore and Maddie Nazar, with Amanda Findley and Hannah Cumbler assisting. Marnie Merrill and Julia Cowesky scored for the Windjammers. Dore and Findley added unassisted goals in the second half before Caroline Matteo wrapped up the scoring for Camden Hills.

Lindsay Bumbalo made six saves for Camden Hills and Katie Smith recorded 10 for Maranacook, which also defeated previously unbeaten Belfast on Thursday.

MONMOUTH ACADEMY 2, WISCASSET 1: Chelse Arsenault scored her second goal of the game with 19 minutes left to lift the Mustangs (3-2) over Wiscasset (1-6) at Monmouth.

Arsenault gave Monmouth a 1-0 lead in the first half before Mandy Wehole tied it early in the second.

Kelsie Hilton had five saves for Monmouth.

VINALHAVEN 5, VALLEY 1: Izza Drury and Blake Reidy each scored twice for the Vikingy.

Alana Witt also scored for Vinalhaven. Shannon Rich answered for Valley.

MADISON 1, MT. ABRAM 0: Nathalie Michaud scored with 33:51 left to lift the Bulldogs (3-2) over Mt. Abram (0-4-1) at Madison.

Cristie Vicneire assisted. Savanna Kandiko had 11 saves for the shutout. Allison Lopez had six saves for Mt. Abram.

GREENVILLE 3, RANGELEY 1: Miranda Drinkwater scored two goals for Greenville.

Sandra Campbell scored for Rangeley from Olivia Decelles. Emily Carrier had 17 saves for Rangeley.
