GORHAM – Melanie Allen had two goals and St. Joseph’s pulled away for a 4-1 victory over the University of Southern Maine in a college field hockey game Thursday.

Kayla Nowell scored in the 11th minute to give the Monks (4-2) a 2-0 lead. Bethany Bougie pulled the Huskies (3-6) within 2-1 with a goal in the 13th minute.

Sarah Bartell also scored for St. Joseph’s.

BASEBALL

ST. JOSEPH’S: The Monks hired Jim Cronin and Greg Souza as assistant coaches.

Cronin spent the past four seasons as head coach at Scarborough High and was 2010 SMAA coach of the year.

Souza was an assistant coach at Westbrook High for the last four seasons and served as head coach of the American Legion team the last two years.
