BIDDEFORD — Ocean Properties, a hotel management and development company with numerous properties in Maine, has teamed up with Scarborough Down on a proposal for a hotel, entertainment and racino complex in Biddeford.

The hotel company, founded by Tom Walsh, has resort destinations in Maine and around the world, including the Samoset in Rockland and Marriott, Westin, Holiday Inn hotels from Bar Harbor to South Portland. The Walsh family has also been involved in harness racing industry for more than three decades. 

Walsh would work with Sharon Terry, owner of Scarborough Downs, on the racetrack’s proposal to move from Scarborough to a yet-to-be-determined location in Biddeford, according to an announcement at a press conference this morning in Biddeford.

A proposal to relocate the racetrack and open a racino in Biddeford will be on the city ballot on Nov. 2.

Downs officials have said the racino would generate 500 full-time jobs when it opens, not including the construction jobs.
