ADDRESS: 88 Bedford St., Abromson Community Center at University of Southern Maine, Portland campus.

DENOMINATION/AFFILIATION: Nondenominational

HISTORY: Next Level Church was started in 2008 by pastor Josh Gagnon and 12 people at the Spinelli movie theater in Somersworth, N.H. It has grown to include more than 500 people. Currently, NLC meets at the Regal cinemas in Newington, N.H., and has a location in downtown Dover, N.H.

Next Level will launch its third location Sunday in the 520-seat auditorium at Abromson Community Center at USM.

The goal of NLC is to serve the community, and this past June the church opened Kaleo Coffee, a nonprofit coffee house, in Dover. Kaleo Coffee is open seven days a week, with profits going back into the community, including a fund to help local parents pay for the high costs of adoption.

The church hopes to launch a Kaleo Coffee in Portland next year and give back to the community in a similar way.

WORSHIP SERVICES: Next Level Church/Portland will meet at 10 a.m. every Sunday beginning this weekend. Those who stop by will be welcomed by friendly people and enjoy Starbucks coffee in the lobby. There will be a special program designed for kids. Attendees can listen to a band that has a style mixing U2 and Snow Patrol, see a media presentation and hear a down-to-earth message.

PLANS: Next Level Church is one church with multiple locations. The church plans to launch a church campus and Kaleo Coffee in every city in New England.

The goal and mission in Portland is to love and serve the city, and members have already spent the summer feeding and helping the homeless, cleaning the streets and giving out thousands of free bottles of water. The church has united with local food programs to help feed the hungry.
