CAPE ELIZABETH — The town’s Open Space and Greenbelt Management Committee has developed a draft outline of its open space plan, but needs an additional six months to complete the work.

The Town Council charged the committee with creating a plan for the management of open space and greenbelt trails. The group includes members of the  Conservation Commission and Councilor Jessica Sullivan, the council liaison to the Conservation Commission.

Since June, the group has met six times after their regularly scheduled Conservation Commission meetings to work on the plan.

Their outline includes a vision statement, an inventory and description of properties, the roles of responsible parties, property management and maintenance policies, public information and safety regulations.

At an Oct. 13 Town Council meeting, Sullivan said the process has been a lot of work and more time will be needed to complete the plan.

“The committee has been working regularly and it’s a great deal of work,” she said. “I am very pleased the committee has been working regularly, very hard on this, but it is quite comprehensive.”

The council voted unanimously to grant the extension, and changed the deadline to June 30, 2011.

The next meeting of the open space committee will follow the Conservation Commission meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m.
