ORONO — Marissa Shaw and Jordin McGinnis each scored a goal as Nokomis defeated York, 2-0 Saturday evening at the University of Maine to win the Class B field hockey title.

Shaw scored the first goal, and it came less than two minutes after she hit the left post with a shot. Her goal came off a corner that bounced off the pads of York goalie Amanda Kasbohm and into the right corner of the cage with 18:28 to go in the first half.

McGinnis scored just 1:20 into the second half. Kasbohm came out to stuff McGinnis on the left side, but McGinnis whirled and fired in the rebound for the goal.

It is the first ever field hockey state championship for Nokomis. The Warriors lost in the 1977 Class A final to Bonny Eagle and the 2008 final to York.
