ARROWSIC — A vacant farmhouse on Route 127 in Arrowsic was gutted by an early morning fire today.

Arrowsic’s Fire Chief Chris Cummings said the rear section of the two and a half story building was fully involved when firefighters arrived around 3:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Cummings said the farmhouse is still standing, but is considered a total loss.

An investigator from the State Fire Marshall’s Office was called in, but determined that the cause of the fire, which started in the basement, was accidental.

Firefighters from the towns of Arrowsic, Bath, Georgetown, Woolwich and West Bath responded to the fire. The farmhouse is owned by Bob Elwell.
