Don Justin Meserve, a well-known sculptor, died from cancer at his home in Round Pond Wednesday morning.

A press release from Gleason Fine Art said that a memorial for Meserve will be held at the Cathedral of St. Luke in Portland in May. The cathedral houses Meserve’s famed Stations of the Cross, 14 bas-relief panels detailing Jesus’ walk to his crucifixion.

Before being installed at the cathedral in 2008, the Stations were exhibited in such locations as the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., and Trinity Church in Manhattan. Gleason Fine Art also plans an exhibit of Meserve’s work.
