STACYVILLE – Maine State Police are seeking help from the public in identifying a man whose decomposed body was found in Stacyville, in northern Penobscot County.

State police say the body was found by deer hunters on Thursday about a mile from Route 11.

A team of detectives, game wardens and personnel from the state Medical Examiner’s Office removed the remains on Friday.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday in Augusta.

Authorities believe the man died sometime in the past two months.

Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said the man was wearing a blue and white knit cap with the name “Chris” marked inside, a blue-and-white plaid shirt, khaki pants, white sneakers and a brown jacket.

A black nylon soft briefcase was found near the body.
