Top-seed New Hampshire rallies past Maine in America East field hockey tournament

Hayley Rausch scored her second goal of the game with 7:06 remaining to lift the top-seeded University of New Hampshire field hockey team to a 3-2 win over the fourth-seeded University of Maine in an America East semifinal at Durham, N.H.

Whitney Frates had a goal and an assist for the Wildcats (14-6). She evened the score at 2 with 2:01 left in the first half.

Jocelyn Mitchell had a goal and an assist for the Black Bears (13-6), who held leads of 1-0 and 2-1. Kelly Newton also scored.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Alisa Sweet scored 30 points as Southern Maine Community College (2-1) cruised to a 49-6 halftime lead and went on to a 97-20 win over Nashua Community College (0-1) at South Portland.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: Josh Mackie scored 21 points and had five rebounds as SMCC (3-0) earned an 85-74 win over Nashua CC (0-1) at South Portland.

HOCKEY

QMJHL: Oliver Dame-Malka scored two of Lewiston’s four third-period goals to rally the Maineiacs to a 5-2 victory over the Val-d’Or Foreurs in Lewiston.

PREP SCHOOLS

FIELD HOCKEY: Maggie Lane had two goals and an assist to lead Hebron Academy to a 4-0 victory over Gould Academy in a MAISAD semifinal at Hebron.

BOYS’ SOCCER: Hyde School gave up two own goals in the first 20 minutes and Hebron Academy rolled to a 6-0 win at Hebron.

GOLF

WORLD GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS: Francesco Molinari followed his opening 65 with a 70 to reach 9 under and Lee Westwood also had a 70 and was a shot back after two rounds of the HSBC Champions in Shanghai. Ernie Els (65), Jaco Van Zyl (66) and Richie Ramsay (68) were 7 under.

CHAMPIONS TOUR: John Cook shot a 2-under 69 to take a one-stroke lead over Tom Kite and Tom Lehman in the Charles Schwab Cup Championship in San Francisco.

A day after opening with seven birdies in a bogey-free 64, Cook was even par through 15 holes before he eagled the par-4 16th. He followed with pars on the final two holes to get to 9-under 133. Kite had a 67, Lehman a 68.

LPGA: Jiyai Shin shot a 7-under 65 to share the lead with Yukari Baba after the first round of the Mizuno Classic in Shima, Japan.

MISCELLANEOUS

OTHER NEWS: Marcel Granollers rallied to beat Juan Monaco 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 and reach the semifinals of the Valencia Open in Valencia, Spain. … Novak Djokovic and Viktor Troicki advanced to the semifinals with straight-set wins in the Swiss Indoors event in Basel, Switzerland. Djokovic beat Robin Haase 6-2, 6-3, while Troicki beat Richard Gasquet 6-4, 6-2. … Top-ranked Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from the Paris Masters for medical reasons Nadal would discuss the reasons for his withdrawal Sunday or Monday.
