MILLINOCKET  — The co-star of the Discovery Channel’s “American Loggers” has launched a new business: building logging-truck trailers.

Jeff Pelletier says Pelletier Manufacturing Inc. of Millinocket was launched last spring and began selling units over the summer to meet demand created by the reality TV series, which focuses on the family logging business in northern Maine.

Pelletier says that so far the company has sold 32 cab protectors, which are metal plates that protect the cab from shifting logs. The company also has sold eight trailers, which cost between $40,000 and $50,000 apiece.

Pelletier tells the Bangor Daily News that virtually all of the logging-truck trailers currently used in Maine are made in Canada.
