OXFORD – In a packed conference room at Town Hall, casino developers announced the $165 million complex will be built on 100 acres of former farmland located on Route 26 near Rabbit Valley Road.
Work could begin as early as next spring. The developer, Black Bear Entertainment, still has to apply for the appropriate local and state permits before construction can begin.
Supporters at the press conference included town officials, local business owners and Oxford residents, who said they hoped the project would boost the local economy and add jobs.
Developers say the project will create about 1,700 jobs.
The casino was approved by voters Nov. 2. Opponents have requested a recount, noting that the measure passed by less than one percentage point out of more than 556,000 votes cast.
