BRUNSWICK – Cathleen Smith and Kassey Matoin each scored two goals as Bowdoin routed Babson 6-0 in an NCAA Division III field hockey tournament game Saturday.

Ingrid Oelschlager and Michaela Cainan also scored for the Polar Bears (17-1), who host the regional final today against Lebanon Valley, with a trip to the national semifinals on the line.


WILLIAM PATTERSON 2, THOMAS 1: The Pioneers (13-3) got second-half goals by Julian Valerio and Kene Eze to rally past the Terriers ( 11-6-2) in an NCAA Division III regional semifinal at Middlebury, Vt.

Dence Manguda gave Thomas a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute, assisted by Dylan Keller.


HARVARD 73, MAINE 54: The Crimson outscored Maine 45-25 in the second half to win a season opener at Orono.

The Black Bears led 14-5 early and 29-28 at halftime. Four players scored in double digits for Maine, paced by Katelyn Vanderhoff with 12 points. Samantha Wheeler and Amber Smith each had 11, and Corinne Wellington finished with 10.

Brogan Berry led Harvard with 20 points.

SOUTHERN MAINE CC 75, EASTERN MAINE CC 39: Alisa Sweet scored 19 points and Christina Ricci added 18 as the Seawolves (3-2, 2-0 YSCC) opened a 47-26 halftime lead and cruised past the Eagles (1-1) at Portland.


SOUTHERN MAINE CC 89, EASTERN MAINE CC 61: Josh Mackie scored 19 points to lead the Seawolves (4-1, 2-0 YSCC) to a win over the Eagles (1-1) at Portland.

Jim Thyng contributed 16 points and Paul Holland added 14.


NORWICH 5, SOUTHERN MAINE 3: Melissa Rundlett and Jacqueline Perez each scored two goals as the Cadets (5-1, 4-0 ECAC East) beat the Huskies (1-1-1, 1-1-1) at Gorham.

Kailey Bubier scored twice for USM. Erin Banfield added a goal and an assist, and Katie Paradis assisted on all three goals.
