The Class B game between Mountain Valley and Leavitt will kick off Saturday’s football state championship tripleheader at Portland’s Fitzpatrick Stadium, the Maine Principals’ Association announced Monday.

Mountain Valley (10-0) will play Leavitt (11-0) at 11:06 a.m.

The Class A title game between Cheverus (11-0) and Bangor (10-1) will follow at 2:30 p.m. The Class C game between Yarmouth (11-0) and Stearns (11-0) is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.

Ticket prices are $7 for adults and $4 for students. Tickets are good for all three games, but fans who leave the facility must buy another ticket to re-enter. Backpacks, duffel bags, containers of any sort or drinks of any type are not allowed through the gates.

NCAA: Former Portland High runner Ayalew Taye won the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Cross Country Championship Saturday in State College, Pa.

Taye, now a senior at Georgetown University, covered the 10-kilometer course in 30 minutes, 5 seconds to beat a pair of Penn State runners by one and two seconds. The victory over a field of 193 qualifies Taye — who won the Maine resident category of the 2007 Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race — for the NCAA Division I National Championships next Monday in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Sintayehu Taye, Ayalew’s brother, a junior at the University of Virginia, placed 47th at the Southeast Regional meet Saturday in Louisville, Ky. Both Virginia and Georgetown received at-large berths in the national championship meet hosted by Indiana State.
