The Friends of Maine Hockey will hold two Skate with the Bears sessions from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11 at Alfond Arena in Orono, and from 2 to 3 p.m. Jan. 1 at Family Ice Center in Falmouth. Participants can skate with the men’s and women’s hockey teams in this annual event. Admission is free and skates are optional. There will be opportunities to collect autographs and hockey player trading cards, take pictures, meet the mascot Bananas, and get a custom-made pin for $3. Refreshments will be provided.

The Maine Running Company Turkey Trot 5K will be held at 9 a.m. Sunday in Cape Elizabeth. Race-day registration is at Cape Elizabeth Middle School, and the entry fee is $20. There’s no charge for the kids’ fun run at 8:30 a.m. The 5-kilometer race serves as the Road Runners Club of America state championship. Visit www.mainetrackclub.com for more information.

Registration is still open for the 29th annual Portland Thanksgiving Day 4-Miler. The entry fee is $18 for preregistration, which closes Monday, or $20 on race day. Race-day registration is at the One City Center food court. The course is two loops through downtown and the Old Port. A 1-kilometer kids’ run begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 4-mile race at 9.
