TREMONT — The bodies of an elderly couple have been discovered inside a vehicle that was found submerged in waters at the end of boat ramp in Tremont.
Maine Marine Patrol Spc. Colin MacDonald said two people spotted the SUV at about 7:30 a.m. today at the town landing in the Seal Cove area of town, located on Mount Desert Island.
MacDonald said a Marine Patrol diver then found the bodies of 92-year-old Lewis Lawton and his 86-year-old wife, Inez, inside the vehicle. They lived in Seal Cove.
The vehicle has been removed from the water. Autopsies are expected.
The Marine Patrol is heading the investigation, assisted by Maine State Police and the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department.
