PORTLAND — Energy officials say heating oil prices in Maine were unchanged over the past week.

The Governor’s Office of Energy Independence and Security says heating oil averaged $2.87 a gallon in its weekly survey Monday.

The lowest average price was in southern Maine, at $2.74 a gallon. The average price was highest in northern Maine, at $3.01 a gallon.

Director John Kerry said the Thanksgiving holiday’s limited trading period held prices in check, but that he expects higher prices with the European Union’s economic bailout of Ireland, falling inventories, colder weather and the stronger dollar.

The average price of kerosene prices fell 2 cents a gallon in the past week, to $3.20. The average price of propane was flat, at $2.64 a gallon.
