PARIS — A 21-year-old Maine man has pleaded guilty to two counts of murder in the shooting deaths of two Rumford men last year.

Richard Moulton Jr. of Mexico changed his plea today in the August 2009 shootings of 48-year-old Roger Day and 22-year-old Victor Sheldon at a home they shared in Rumford.

Assistant Attorney General Andrew Benson told the Sun Journal of Lewiston that in exchange for the plea, prosecutors agreed to cap Moulton’s prison sentence at 40 years.

Moulton’s co-defendant, 20-year-old Eric Hamel of Mexico, pleaded guilty in September.

Court documents indicate that Moulton and Hamel planned the shootings as revenge because Sheldon allegedly assaulted his estranged wife, who’d begun dating Moulton.
