GORHAM – Craig Perham scored his second goal of the game to break a 3-3 tie with 7:52 remaining Friday night and help the University of Southern Maine to a 5-3 victory over Middlebury in men’s hockey.

Jon Rutt had a goal and three assists for the Huskies (2-3-1, 1-1 ECAC East/NESCAC), and Paul Conter and Dan Rautenberg each added a goal and an assist.

USM goalie Braely Torris stopped 32 shots by the Panthers (1-4, 0-3).

COLBY 5, CASTLETON STATE 3: Wil Hartigan scored the go-ahead goal off a rebound of Karl Burns’ shot with 2:53 left as the White Mules (2-3, 1-2 ECAC East/NESCAC) beat the Spartans (4-1, 2-1) at Rutland, Vt.

Tom McGinn and Dan Nelson had a goal and an assist for the Mules, who rallied from a 3-1 deficit.

WILLIAMS 6, UNE 0: Connor Olvany had two goals and one assist to lead the Ephs (5-0-1, 3-0 ECAC East/NESCAC) past UNE (1-4, 0-3) at Biddeford.

Mike Roper had 40 saves for the Nor’easters.

SKIDMORE 7, BOWDOIN 6: Julian Malakorn scored 2:31 into overtime to lift Skidmore (2-3, 2-1 ECAC East/NESCAC) over the Polar Bears (3-1, 2-1) at Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

Bowdoin trailed 6-2 before rallying in the final 12 minutes to tie the game on a goal by Jeff Fanning with 50 seconds left.

Harry Matheson had two goals and an assist for the Polar Bears.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

BATES 71, UM-PRESQUE ISLE 33: Meredith Kelly had 18 points, nine steals and seven rebounds to lead the Bobcats (5-1) over the Owls (1-3) in the Paul Bunyan Invitational at Bangor.

Allie Beaulieu added 11 points, four assists and four steals for the Bobcats, who finished with 24 steals, their highest total since 2005.

WASHINGTON (MO.) 64, UNE 53: Kathryn Berger had 13 points with 10 rebounds to lead the Bears (4-1) over the Nor’easters (4-3) in the McWilliams Classic at St. Louis.

Margo Russell made 15 of 16 foul shots and finished with 24 points for UNE.

(7) UCONN 94, MARYLAND-BALTIMORE COUNTRY 61: Kemba Walker had 24 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists, leading Connecticut (7-0) to a victory over Maryland-Baltimore County (0-7) at Hartford, Conn.

(12) VILLANOVA 71, ST. JOSEPH’S 60: Antonio Pena had 14 points and 14 rebounds as Villanova (6-1) beat visiting St. Joseph’s (3-4).

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

SALVE REGINA 2, USM 0: Rachel Porter broke a scoreless tie with a power-play goal midway through the second period as the Seahawks (3-5, 3-3 ECAC East) edged the Huskies (1-5-1, 1-4-1) at Gorham.

Jordan Lee had 15 saves for the Huskies, who were outshot 21-17.

HAMILTON 3, BOWDOIN 1: Stephanie Lang scored two goals to help the Continentals (2-4) beat the Polar Bears (3-2) at Brunswick.

Jill Campbell scored for Bowdoin on an assist by Stephanie Ludy, and Sage Santanegelo had 21 saves. 

CONN. COLLEGE 1, COLBY 0: Paige Murray scored to give the Camels (3-2) a win over the Mules (2-3) at Waterville.

Amy Leichliter made 22 saves for the shutout, and Brianne Wheeler had 29 saves for Colby.

MAINE 3, VERMONT 2: Dawn Sullivan scored a short-handed goal with nine seconds left as the Black Bears (7-6-3) beat the Catamounts (1-8-8) at Burlington, Vt.

Sullivan also had an assist on a goal by Brittany Dougherty earlier in the third period. Brittany Ott made 29 saves for Maine.

FOOTBALL

MIAMI (OHIO) 26, NORTHERN ILLINOIS 21: Austin Boucher threw a touchdown pass to Armand Robinson with 33 seconds left as Miami of Ohio (8-4) won the Mid-American Conference championship with a victory over Northern Illinois (10-3) at Detroit.

STANFORD 2, BOSTON COLLEGE 0: Camille Levin scored in the 48th minute and Stanford (23-0-2) beat Boston College (17-7-1) to advance to the NCAA women’s College Cup final at Cary, N.C.

The Eagles went without a shot in the first half for the first time all season in their first appearance in the national semifinals.

NOTRE DAME 1, OHIO STATE 0: Mandy Laddish scored in the 83rd minute and Katie Baumgardner made 10 saves as Notre Dame (20-2-2) eliminated Ohio State (17-5-2) in the NCAA semifinals.
