TOPSHAM — Lawson H. Trufant, Sr., 72, lovingly known as “Pappy,” died Thursday, Dec. 9, with his family at his side, after a brief battle with mesothelioma.

Born in Topsham, Dec. 17, 1937, he was the eldest of three sons of Avery D. Trufant and Christine M. Hill.

After serving in the U.S. Army, he returned and married his childhood sweetheart, Janet M. Johnson, on June 28, 1958.

They had two sons and a daughter together, whom he all adored, and was thrilled to eventually welcome two daughters-in-law, five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

A unique man with a large personality, he had many loves in his life, but first was his wife and family.

As a lifelong truck driver, he loved trucks of all sizes, motorcycles, four wheelers, and coffee shop talk.
