DOVER, N.H. – Defenseman Alex Jannetti scored early in the second period Wednesday night and York went on to a 1-0 victory against Cape Elizabeth in a schoolboy hockey game.

LAWRENCE 6, SKOWHEGAN 0: Lawrence (2-0) scored four goals in 7:15 of the third period to pull away from Skowhegan (0-2) at Winslow.

Brad Mackenzie made 15 saves to earn the shutout.

Lawrence Coach Dave Richard stressed that the score didn’t mean the Bulldogs had played a perfect game.

“I really think that we could have controlled even more of the play than we did,” Richard said. “We’ve got to be more patient with the puck. There’s so many things that we need to be doing away from the puck. That’s what we’ve got to work on.”

Lawrence skated four lines and tried different combinations. Devon Belanger scored in the first period and Christian Carpenter in the second.

Skowhegan freshman Sam Edmondson, making his first varsity start, made 20 saves in the first two periods. But the Indians could claim just eight shots on goal over the same time frame and trailed, 2-0.

“Your percentages get better as you take more shots,” Skowhegan Coach Joseph Hague said. “We just didn’t have them today.”

Carpenter scored a power-play goal 36 seconds into the third period, followed by Belanger’s second goal less than four minutes later. Tyler Boudreau and Mat Woodbury also scored, and Jared Grenier finished with three assists.
