The Windham Raymond School Board voted Wednesday to keep open the Jordan-Small Middle School in Raymond.

The Regional School Unit 14 board had considered closing the school and moving the middle school students to the town’s elementary school to save money. Both schools are operating at 50 percent capacity.

Raymond residents overwhelmingly spoke against the proposal at public hearings.

The vote was 8-1 against the closing, with Mike Duffy the only board member in favor of the closing.

School District Superintendent Sandy Prince said the district will continue to look for solutions to space needs, such as renting out space to a compatible tenant.
