LAWRENCE, Kan. – Heralded Kansas freshman Josh Selby made his debut in stunning fashion Saturday, hitting a go-ahead 3-pointer with 26 seconds left to lift the third-ranked Jayhawks to a 70-68 victory over Southern California.

Selby, a 6-foot-2 guard ranked by most recruiting services as the nation’s No. 1 prospect, spent the first nine games on the bench while serving an NCAA-ordered suspension for accepting impermissible benefits. He finished with a game-high 21 points.

The Jayhawks (10-0) led by 10 early in the first half before Donte Smith led the Trojans (6-5) on an 11-0 run.

After Jio Fontan hit two free throws to put USC on top 68-66 with 1:36 left, Marcus Morris found Selby for the go-ahead 3-pointer.

“There was no way he was passing that last one,” Kansas Coach Bill Self said. “That ball was going up.”
