SACO – Andrew Shaw scored 23 points and James Ek added 18 as Thornton Academy downed Bonny Eagle 63-58 in a game between unbeaten Southern Maine Activities Association schoolboy basketball teams Tuesday night.

Adam Ek scored all 10 of his points in the fourth quarter for Thornton (4-0), which led 41-35 through three.

Steve Simonds had 14 points, and Dustin Cole and Cole Libby each added 11 for the Scots.

 

YARMOUTH 84, CAPE ELIZABETH 61: Josh Britten scored 28 points, 22 in the first half as Yarmouth (4-1) opened a 46-19 lead against the Capers (4-1) at Cape Elizabeth.

Yarmouth shot 67 percent from 2-point range and 53 percent from beyond the arc.

WAYNFLETE 59, SACOPEE VALLEY 31: Alex Hadiaris scored 13 points to power the Flyers (3-2) over the Hawks (0-5) at South Hiram.

Joe Veroneau added 12 points for Waynflete, which outscored Sacopee 50-18 through the last three quarters.

 

SCARBOROUGH 52, MARSHWOOD 42: Zach Bean scored 24 points, including six of his eight free throws down the stretch, as the Red Storm (4-0) held off the Hawks (3-1) at Scarborough.

Ben Wessel scored five of his 11 points in the first quarter as Scarborough took a 10-3 lead on the way to a 20-9 halftime advantage.

SOUTH PORTLAND 55, SANFORD 47: Matt Russell had 17 points, including 16 on putbacks, and 14 rebounds to lead the Red Riots (4-0) over Sanford (0-4) at South Portland.

Vukasin Vignjvic added 13 points and Logan Gaddar had 10 boards for South Portland.

 

WESTBROOK 61, MASSABESIC 27: Sean Murphy had 17 points and six rebounds, and Trevor Bates added 16 points and seven rebounds to lead the Blue Blazes (3-1) past the Mustangs (0-4) at Westbrook.

Murphy put up 13 points in the first half as Westbrook took a 35-17 lead.

WELLS 55, YORK 53: Alex Furness scored 11 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter as Wells (2-3) used a 14-7 run to take a 53-46 lead with 1:19 left against the Wildcats (4-1) at York.

Zach Deshaies added 10 points for the Warriors. Liam Langaas scored 18 for York.

 

BRUNSWICK 42, MORSE 23: Garrett Erb had 10 of his 14 points in the first quarter as the Dragons (2-1) built a 17-1 lead against the Shipbuilders (0-4) at Bath.

FALMOUTH 72, LAKE REGION 25: Mike Lafond scored 16 points for the Yachtsmen (4-1), who started with a 22-1 run against the Lakers (1-4) at Naples.

Jack Cooleen added 12 points and Alex Cattell had 10 for Falmouth.

 

WINDHAM 68, BIDDEFORD 66: Shawn Francoeur scored with 20 seconds left to put Windham (2-2) ahead, then added a free throw to close out the Tigers (1-3) at Biddeford.

Trailing 51-47 after three quarters, Biddeford took a 66-65 lead on two free throws by Felipe Barbosa-Silva (11 points) with 35 seconds left.

DEERING 62, GORHAM 44: John Amabile had 16 points, eight rebounds and seven assists as Deering (2-2) stopped Gorham (0-4) at Portland.

Jackson Frey added 11 points for Deering.

 

GREELY 71, FREEPORT 45: Tanner Storey scored 15 points and Michael McDevitt added 14 as Greely (5-0) defeated the Falcons (0-5) at Freeport.

 

GRAY-NG 58, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 54: Adam Jensen scored 26 points for the Patriots (3-2), who led 43-38 after three quarters and held off the Raiders (1-4) at Fryeburg.

POLAND 43, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 41: Drew Peterson completed a three-point play with 16 seconds remaining to help Poland (1-3) down the Seagulls (3-1) at Old Orchard Beach.

 

MT. ARARAT 44, OXFORD HILLS 40: Josh Walker, Josh Wright and Luke Liedman provided all the scoring for the Eagles (3-1), who used a 10-5 run in the fourth quarter to edge the Vikings (2-2) at Topsham.

HOCKEY

GREELY 2, WESTBROOK 1: Ken Richards scored with 1:30 left as the Rangers (4-0) edged the Blue Blazes (1-4) at Gorham.

Richards made it 2-0 from Michael Tuller and Devyn Rogers. Kyle Gaudreau scored from Tommy Lemay with 51 seconds left for Westbrook.

 

CAPE ELIZABETH 7, YARMOUTH 3: Nick Breed scored five goals, four on breakaways, as the Capers (1-3) cruised to a 5-0 lead and beat the Clippers (2-2) at Portland.

Matt Ross added three assists, and Satchel McCarthy had his first varsity goal for Cape.
