PARIS — A 24-year-old western Maine woman has pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder and other charges for her alleged role in last year’s shooting deaths of her estranged husband and his roommate.

Gayla Sheldon, of Mexico, was denied bail after entering her plea Tuesday in Oxford County District Court in Paris.

Sheldon was arrested Friday and charged with two counts of murder, conspiracy to commit murder and other charges in the August 2009 killings of 48-year-old Roger Day and her estranged husband, 22-year-old Victor Sheldon, in the Rumford apartment they shared.

Twenty-one-year-old Richard Moulton Jr. and 20-year-old Eric Hamel have pleaded guilty to the killings.

Police say Moulton and Hamel planned the shootings as revenge because Victor Sheldon allegedly had assaulted his estranged wife, who’d begun dating Moulton.
