Maine Drug Enforcement Agency agents arrested a Portland man today by in connection with a high-speed chase on Interstate Route 295 in Portland on Wednesday.

Richard Maynard, 42, was charged with aggravated trafficking in heroin after his arrest at an Old Orchard Beach motel where he and his girlfriend were staying.

Police said Maynard was a passenger in the car driven by Derrick Decenso, 32, of Portland, who was arrested after the chase ended Wednesday. Maynard fled the scene.

Police said they seized 10 grams of heroin worth $1,800 from the car and suspect Maynard may have thrown additional quantities of the drug from the car during the chase.

Maynard was also charged on two outstanding arrest warrants.

Maynard’s girlfriend, Tara Bucknell, 31, of Portland, was charged with hindering apprehension. Police said she likely picked up Maynard after he had fled the scene.

All three are being held at the Cumberland County Jail.
