A tryout for a new under-14 AAU baseball team is at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Maine Hits in Scarborough. The team will be coached by a former Portland Sea Dogs player, Glenn Reeves. The tryout is open to players who will be 14 or younger next summer. The team is looking to fill a 12-player roster of players who can play most positions. The AAU season begins in April and goes through July, with a schedule of about 30 games, excluding scrimmages. The teams practice weekly and the frequency depends on availability of fields. Offseason preparation is expected. Participants must register with the team by Monday and pay a $15 nonrefundable tryout fee. The registration fee for playing on the team is expected to be $1,350.
