PORTLAND — A South Portland-based Coast Guard cutter is moving to a new home across Portland Harbor.

The 110-foot Jefferson Island patrol vessel is permanently moving Thursday from its current spot at the Coast Guard base in South Portland to a newly renovated Coast Guard pier on the Portland side of the harbor.

The vessel has been located in Portland Harbor since it was commissioned in 1991.

It will be open for public tours at its new home from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
