The York County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an early morning ATV accident in Lebanon that sent two people to area hospitals.

According to the Lebanon Rescue Department, two riders apparently were thrown from their four wheeler, which then rolled on top of them, at the corner of Jim Grant Road and Emmons Lane in Center Lebanon. The accident happened around 1:20 a.m.

Responders found the 33-year old male driver lying unconscious in the road with serious injuries. A passenger, a 44-year old woman, was found shortly afterward. Identities were not available early today.

The male rider was taken by medical helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland. The woman was taken by ambulance to Frisbie Hospital in Rochester, N.H.

Neither rider was wearing a helmet, rescue personnel said.
