FREEPORT — State Police say Kyle Spann, 19, of Clinton fell asleep while driving north on Interstate 295 at mile 23 in Freeport, hit the guardrail and went off the road.

The 2000 Ford Focus station wagon had extensive damage and traffic was down to one lane for a short period of time, Trooper Marvin Hinkley said. Police had earlier reported that Spann, the only occupant, suffered only minor injuries.

A rollover on Interstate 295 this morning resulted in minor injuries but no major traffic problems.

The station wagon was headed north at about 8:45 a.m. when the driver lost control just north of Exit 21. The car ended up off the road in a field.

Northbound motorists slowed at the scene but there were no significant tie ups.
