GORHAM – The Maine Warden Service was preparing in mid-morning today to recover an unmanned blue kayak that had been spotted floating in North Gorham Pond off the North Gorham Road.

A game warden at the scene said it was unknown whether anyone was in the kayak before it was seen floating in the pond by a resident of a nearby home.

“There’s no one reported missing,” Warden Dave Ross said at the scene. “We’re just trying to find the owner of the kayak.”

Jeff York saw the empty kayak in the icy water from his home on the Windham shore about 8 a.m. York reported it to Gorham Public Safety but York said he didn’t see anyone in the water.

York said he saw a plane circling the area Wednesday morning.
