WESTBROOK – Thornton Academy recovered from a slow start Thursday night to rally past Westbrook for a 48-44 victory in a Southern Maine Activities Association schoolboy basketball game.

Thornton (7-3) trailed 13-4 after the first period and 25-18 at halftime, then went on a 16-6 run in the third quarter to take the lead.

James Ek scored 15 points, Andrew Shaw added 12 and Justin Pollard 10 to lead the Trojans.

Sean Murphy led Westbrook (7-3) with 13 points. Nguot Ngout chipped in 12.

WELLS 50, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 34: Paul McDonough scored eight of his 23 points during a third-quarter rally that helped the Warriors (8-4) defeat the Raiders (2-9) at Fryeburg.

Alex Furness added seven points for Wells, which outscored Fryeburg 18-6 in the third quarter for a 42-25 lead.

Bright Amoako had 13 points for the Raiders.

A.R. GOULD 92, ACADIA CHRISTIAN 17: George Hopkins finished with 21 points, Mekonnen Nigussie added 20 points and seven steals, Steve Lyons had 12 points and Phil Smith 10 as the Bears (6-3) beat the Seahawks (0-9) at South Portland.

GOULD ACADEMY 57, SACOPEE VALLEY 41: Will Bunge scored 18 points, and Shaquille Jones and Isaiah Thompson chipped in 10 apiece for the Huskies (4-4) against the Hawks (1-9) at South Hiram.

Gould went ahead 28-19 with a 14-5 run in the second quarter.

Jeff Taylor had 18 points, three blocked shots and eight rebounds, and Ryan Morse finished with 15 points for Sacopee.

CAMDEN HILLS 69, LINCOLN ACADEMY 49: Keegan Pieri finished with 26 points and 10 rebounds, and Tyler McFarland added 19 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Windjammers (12-0) past the Eagles (6-6) at Rockport.

McFarland became the Windjammers’ all-time leading scorer with 1,158 points, eclipsing the 1,149 that Tom Fifield finished with in 1989.

Brandon Reilly paced Lincoln Academy with 12 points.

DEERING 94, NOBLE 46: Jon Amabile scored 13 of his game-high 27 points in the second quarter as the Rams (7-3) pulled away from the Knights (2-9) at North Berwick.

Jackson Frye had nine of his 18 points in the second quarter for the Rams, who outscored Noble 31-16 for a 46-23 lead. Patrick Green added 10 points.

Xandy Houser had 10 points for Noble.

DEERING 62, NOBLE 24: Kayla Burchill scored 29 points and Aarika Viola added 10 as Deering (10-0) downed Noble (2-9) at Portland.

Marissa MacMillan and Chelsea Saucier each had six points for Deering, which opened a 37-12 halftime lead with an 18-2 run in the second quarter.

Stephanie Needham had eight points for Noble.

WELLS 42, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 41: Kelsey Bragdon scored 13 points as the Warriors (6-6) edged the Raiders (4-7) at Wells.

Bragdon, who was 4 of 4 from the foul line in the fourth quarter, hit two free throws to make it 41-41, and Mariyah Heath broke the tie with a free throw.

Abby Moody added eight points for Wells. Maggie McConkey had 13 points, Skye Dole added 12 and Katie Heggie 10 for Fryeburg.

WISCASSET 53, MADISON 51: Alli Johnson scored 20 points and Kayla Connors added 17 to lead the Redskins (1-11) past Madison (7-6) at Wiscasset.

Brianna Gould added 11 points for Wiscasset.

BOOTHBAY REGION 49, CARRABEC 29: Alexandra Clarke scored 11 points as the Seahawks (6-6) stopped the Cobras (4-8) at North Anson.

BOYS’ HOCKEY

ST. DOMINIC 6, MESSALONSKEE 1: Spencer Martin and Cody Rodrigue each scored twice to lead the Saints (8-2) over the Eagles (3-6-1) at Lewiston.

Danny Nadeau and Dakota Keene also scored for St. Dom’s.

Sam Dexter scored and Nate DelGiudice had 55 saves for Messalonskee.

GIRLS’ HOCKEY

BIDDEFORD 5, PORTLAND 5: Raechel Allen scored the final goal 6:30 into the third period for the Bulldogs (4-8-2) against the Tigers (3-8-1) at Portland.

Jenna Roy had three goals and an assist, and Haley Reny had three assists for Biddeford.

Allen finished with two goals and two assists, and Drew Barry scored twice for Portland.

CROSS COUNTRY

Matt McClintock, a junior at Madison, was named the Gatorade Maine boys’ cross country runner of the year.

McClintock won his second consecutive Class C state championship with a time of 16 minutes, 0.91 seconds over 3.2 miles. McClintock also placed 42nd at the Foot Locker Northeast Regionals in 16:37.40 and finished 57th at the New England cross country championships in 17:54.50.

McClintock, ranked first academically in his class, won five Mountain Valley Conference meets, the Maine Festival of Champions and the Western Class C regional.

The award recognizes athletic excellence, academic achievement and exemplary character on and off the race course.
