BRUNSWICK – Bates overcame a 17-point halftime deficit to beat Bowdoin 75-71 Saturday in a New England Small College Athletic Conference men’s basketball game.

Reid Christian hit five 3-pointers in the second half to spark the comeback. Alex Gallant led the Bobcats (10-9, 1-3 NESCAC) with 20 points and was 12 of 15 from the free-throw line. Christian and Brian Ellis each scored 17.

Justin Nowell had 19 points for the Polar Bears (11-4, 1-2), and Will Hanley added 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The Bobcats were 24 of 30 from the foul line, while the Polar Bears went 10 for 20.

ST. JOSEPH’S 74, MOUNT IDA 52: Chris Petzy had 19 points as the Monks (10-5, 7-1 GNAC) used a 40-19 second half to defeat the Mustangs (4-11, 1-7) at Standish.

Petzy connected on five 3-pointers. Nich Jobin added 13 points and Zach O’Brien chipped in 12 for the Monks.

ANNA MARIA 94, UNE 85: Junior De La Hoz had 29 points as the Amcats (10-7, 4-1 Commonwealth Coast) held off the Nor’easters (2-15, 0-5) at Paxton, Mass.

Marcus Winn scored 24 points to lead UNE, which came back from a 15-point deficit to get as close as five in the final minute before De La Hoz hit two free throws and a layup to secure the win.

WESTERN CONN. STATE 111, USM 78: Little East Conference scoring leader DaQuan Brooks had 33 points to lead the Colonials (15-3, 6-1 LEC) over the Huskies (9-8, 1-6) at Gorham.

Jeremy Jackson had 21 points for Southern Maine and Sean Bergeron chipped in 17.

SOUTHERN MAINE CC 112, UNITY 51: Josh Mackie led five players in double-digit scoring with 22 for the Seawolves (11-9, 6-2 YSCC) as they routed the Rams (1-7, 0-7) at South Portland.

Paul Holland scored 18 for SMCC, Coleman Findlay had 14, and Matt Findlay and Randall Laing added 12 apiece.

TUFTS 78, COLBY 66: Amaurus Quezeda had 28 points as the Jumbos (8-8, 2-2 NESCAC) defeated the Mules (9-8, 1-2) at Waterville.

Mike Russell had 16 points and 13 rebound for Colby. Christian Van Loenen added 15 points and six assists.

HOCKEY

USM 2, BABSON 2: Troy Thibodeau and Mike Greene scored for the Huskies (4-9-3, 2-8-1 ECAC East) as they played to a tie against the Beavers (8-7-1, 6-4-1) at Babson Park, Mass.

Braely Torris finished with 40 saves for the Huskies, including five stops in overtime.

UMASS-BOSTON 6, UNE 3: Eric Tufman and Mike DeGrazia scored two goals apiece to lead the Beacons (13-4, 8-3 ECAC East) past the Nor’easters (2-13, 0-11) at Boston.

UNE trailed 3-0 before Adam Laite scored 4:16 into the second period. The Beacons added a goal 24 seconds later, but the Nor’easters rallied to cut the deficit to 4-3 on goals by Sean Sullivan and Jack Nolin less than a minute apart midway through the period.

CONN. COLLEGE 2, BOWDOIN 1: Ryan Riffe scored a power-play goal with 1:26 left in the second period to break a 1-1 tie and lift the Camels (6-7-3, 5-5-1 NESCAC) over the Polar Bears (11-3, 8-3) at New London, Conn.

Bowdoin jumped out to the lead when Harry Matheson scored a power-play goal from Kyle Shearer-Hardy and Rob MacGregor six minutes in.

COLBY 5, TUFTS 2: Jack Bartlett scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period as the Mules (6-8-1, 5-5-1 NESCAC) overcame a 2-1 first-period deficit against the Jumbos (4-10-1, 3-8) at Malden, Mass.

Chris Buonomo, Nick Kondiles, Tom McGinn and Ben Chwick also scored for the Mules, and James Lemonias stopped all 31 shots he faced in the last two periods after replacing starting goalie Cody McKinney.
