CAPE ELIZABETH – Registration for the TD Bank Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race will be held March 14-15, race organizers announced Thursday.

Runners unable to register on those dates will be able to apply until March 22 for a March 23 lottery to fill the remaining slots.

The registration process for the Aug. 6 race will take place only online and will begin March 14 for Cape Elizabeth residents, then on March 15 for the general public.

“We made a significant change in the registration process last year and feel it went well, so we are staying the course,” race president David Weatherbie said.

“Also, we are pleased to expand the number of lottery slots this year to accommodate more runners.”

Approximately 7,200 registrations will be accepted. Last year, a record 5,672 runners finished the race.

The Beach to Beacon starts near the Crescent Beach State Park entrance on Route 77 and winds down the Shore Road before finishing near Portland Head Light in Fort Williams Park.

Because race organizers now must pay a $25,000 fee for the use of Fort Williams Park, the registration fee has been increased $5 for this year’s race to $40.

On March 14, up to 600 Cape Elizabeth residents will be able to register online on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 7 a.m.

Starting at 7 a.m. on March 15, up to 4,000 runners from the general public will be able to register online on a first-come, first-served basis.

On March 23, a lottery will be held to fill the remaining 1,750 spots, an increase of 250 from a year ago. A $5 fee will be charged to enter the lottery.

Race organizers will allow transfers from May 1 through June 30 for a $5 fee. Cape Elizabeth residents registered among the 600 entries allocated to them can transfer their spot in the race only to another Cape Elizabeth resident.

Runners at this year’s race will receive complimentary technical running shirts popular with runners for their moisture-wicking capability.

More than $60,000 in prize money is awarded in various categories for men and women.
