AUGUSTA — The Maine Senate today voted to confirm Darryl Brown as commissioner of the Maine Department of Environmental Protection. The vote was 29 to 6.

The six Democrats who opposed the nomination argued that it posed a conflict of interest because Brown owns a land planning consulting firm. Still, Brown won the support of eight Democrats in the Senate.

After the vote, Brown was sworn into office by Gov. Paul LePage.
