Canine cocktail party

Planet Dog will hold its seventh annual Valentine’s Day Canine Cocktail Party from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 10 at The Planet Dog Company Store on Marginal Way.

The event is for dog lovers and their “four-legged” companions. There will be free beer, wine, treats and water, and participants can enter a dog-kissing contest. The entry fee is a $5 donation to Planet Dog Foundation. The longest, sloppiest buddy-to-owner kiss will win a gift bag from Planet Dog valued at $75.

Girls rock at Space Gallery

The Maine Academy of Modern Music will hold its third annual Girls Rock event at 5 p.m. Saturday at Space Gallery on Congress Street in downtown Portland.

The OxyMorons, Longstory and Lady and the Gents will perform. The show will also feature local acts by The Veayo Twins, The Curious Girl and Amanda Gervasi.

Sharing stories of ancestors

The Greater Portland Chapter of Maine Genealogical Society will meet at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Ocean House Road.

Members will present ancestor stories based on a family artifact or heirloom.

A social will be held before the event at 12:30 p.m. The meeting is free and open to the public. For more information, call 329-6438.

Wagons, sleighs on display

The historical society will hold its monthly open house from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the New Gloucester History Barn on Intervale Road.

The society’s collection of wagons, the town hearse, sleighs and historical photos will be on display. Some memorabilia will be for sale.
