FORT KENT — Maine is gearing up for the second of back-to-back World Cup biathlon events.

Athletes from 22 nations are participating in the biathlon that runs from today to Sunday at the Maine Winter Sports Center’s 10th Mountain Center in Fort Kent.

The opening event is the men’s 10-kilometer sprint, the last sprint before the World Championships next month.

The biathlon, which combines cross-country skiing and rifle marksmamship, is getting some star power. Organizers say NBA hall-of-famer Scottie Pippen is attending the international parade Friday night.

Last weekend, the World Cup was held in Presque Isle.
