FORT KENT — NBA Hall-of-Famer Scottie Pippen hopes the biathlon – which combines rifle marksmanship and skiing – continues to grow in the U.S.

Pippen appeared over the weekend at a World Cup event in Fort Kent. It’s a sport he’d only seen on TV, and he says he enjoyed experiencing it first-hand. He even went to the rifle range to take a few shots. Afterward, he said, “This is a great sport, and I can say that I’m a fan.”

Biathlon, which is more popular in Europe, features cross-country skiers racing each other. At intervals, they fire at targets from 50 yards.

Pippen helped win six NBA titles for Chicago. He was invited to the biathlon by Russian biathlon official connected to the New Jersey Nets.
