Find out where your food comes from at the Meet Your Farmers and Fishermen events taking place around the state this Sunday. The events offer a chance to connect with local food producers and learn how to buy a share in a local farm or fishing business.

Called community supported agriculture (CSA) and community supported fisheries (CSF), the programs sell shares in the coming harvest. The arrangement gives food producers upfront cash at the start of the season and provides shareholders with regular distributions of food during a specified time period. CSAs began as a way to purchase vegetables in the summer, but now the concept has broadened and some offer eggs, dairy products, meat or fish and others offer food year round.

In Portland, the Meet Your Farmers and Fishermen event takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Woodfords Church at 202 Woodford St. The event will include a cooking demonstration by Jonah Fertig of Local Sprouts Cafe.

In Brunswick, the event takes place from 1 to 3 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 27 Pleasant St.
Additional events take place in Auburn (on Friday), Bangor, Belfast, Canaan, Damariscotta, Farmington, Hallowell, Norway, Rockland, Springvale and Waterville.
