Scarborough track competes at NEs
The Class A state champion Scarborough indoor track and field team took part in the New England championships last weekend in Boston. The boys’ 3,200 relay team came in eighth in 8 minutes, 9.33 seconds. On the girls’ side, Emelia Scheemaker was seventh in the long jump (17 feet-1.25 inches). Nicole Kirk placed ninth in the 300 (41.93).
SP coaching vacancies
South Portland High School is seeking a junior varsity girls’ soccer, a JV baseball and a JV softball coach. Mahoney Middle School needs an assistant indoor track coach. FMI, 767-7705.
Running program upcoming
The Nor’Easter run training and racing program, under the direction of Maine Running Hall of Famer and current Waynflete School track coach Brian “Ziggy” Gillespie begins in March and runs through Aug. 31. The program is open to male and female runners of any level of ability. Teams workouts are Wednesday evenings at World’s Gym, 265 Marginal Way, in Portland. FMI, happy2smiles2001@yahoo.com.
