LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Rider broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the seventh inning and defeated the University of Maine 3-2 Friday in the opener of a four-game weekend series.

John Ralston doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Karl Johnston to lift the Broncos (6-7) to a win over the Black Bears (5-13).

Rider grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning on A.J. Albee’s RBI double and made it 2-0 on an RBI single by Albee in the bottom of the third.

The Black Bears got one run back on an RBI single by Eric White in the sixth inning and tied the game on Taylor Lewis’ RBI triple in the seventh.

Joey Martin, Lewis and White each finished with two hits for the Black Bears. Maine starter A.J. Bazdanes allowed two runs and struck out six in 52/3 innings.

CORTLAND STATE 18, SOUTHERN MAINE 15: The Red Dragons (8-4) scored four runs in the top of the 11th inning and held on for a win over the Huskies (3-2) at Davenport, Fla.

Tucker White had four hits to pace the Huskies, who rallied from a 14-7 deficit with six runs in the eighth inning and one in the ninth.

Chris Bernard, Anthony Pisani and Roberto Valenti added three hits apiece for Southern Maine.

 

FRAMINGHAM STATE SWEEPS ST. JOSEPH’S: Daniel Chaisson singled home a run in the seventh as the Rams (3-6) won the opener 6-5 at Fort Myers, Fla.

Framingham State scored eight runs in the third inning of Game 2 on the way to a 13-4 victory.

Todd Keneborus knocked in two runs for the Monks (2-7) in the first game.

SOFTBALL

UNE 5, RICHARD STOCKTON 3: The Nor’easters (4-5) scored a pair of runs on back-to-back squeeze bunts by Allison Frazier and Casey Brigham to break a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning and held off the Ospreys (5-4) at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.

Amber Zablowsky struck out three while throwing a five-hitter to earn the win.

 

ST. JOSEPH’S 3, NORTH PARK 2: Emily Leverone homered in the final inning to give the Monks (5-2) a win over the Vikings (7-2) at Fort Myers, Fla.

Rae-Marie Copan pitched a complete game for her second victory of the season.

 

ST. JOSEPH’S 8, AMHERST 4: Heather Tripp and Lindsay Moore each drove in three runs to power the Monks (6-2) past the Jeffs (6-4) at Fort Myers, Fla.

Emily Leverone added two RBI for St. Joseph’s, and Maddie Kluna struck out eight to improve to 3-0.

 

BATES 10, TRANSYLVANIA 3: The Bobcats (3-0) rallied for nine runs on nine hits in the top of the seventh inning to down the Pioneers (4-8-1) at Clermont, Fla.

Lauren Dobish and Monica Berube drove in two runs apiece for the Bobcats and Courtney Talcott and Mary Lewis each scored twice.

Kristen Finn pitched a four-hitter to earn the win.

 

BETHEL 8, USM 0: Genna Bock struck out five batters and did not allow a walk while pitching a five-hitter as the Royals (8-6) downed the Huskies (0-1) in six innings at Clermont, Fla.

Katie Davis finished with a pair of hits for the Huskies and Anna Allard added a double.

COLBY 11, TUFTS 10: The Mules (3-0, 2-0 NESCAC) scored three goals in the final 6:35 to edge the Jumbos (1-1, 1-1) at Waterville.

Lindsey McKenna led Colby with four goals and an assist, including the tying goal with 1:37 to play. Kate Pistel scored the game-winner with 43 seconds left.

Tufts had a chance to tie with nine seconds remaining, but a hard shot was turned away by Colby goaltender Sarah Warnke. Warnke finished with nine saves for her 41st career victory.
