PORTLAND — The City Council committee leading the search for a new city manager will be looking for advice Wednesday on what to look for in the applicants.

The search committee, chaired by Councilor Cheryl Leeman, and a consultant hired to help find a new manager will meet with various groups during the day and then get some input from the general public Wednesday night.

The committee also includes Councilors John Anton and Jill Duson. The consultant hired by the committee is Colin Baenziger of Colin Baenziger & Associates.

For those unable to attend any of the meetings, the committee will take advice by e-mail at citymanagersearch@portlandmaine.gov. The job description for city manager, the recruitment brochure and a timeline for filling the position are available online at www.portlandmaine.gov/citymanager.htm.

The city has set an April 1 deadline for people to apply for the post and is expected to hire a new manager by the end of June.

Wednesday’s daytime meetings begin at 7:30 a.m. for groups, such as local nonprofit organizations and city employees. All of the group meetings are in City Hall’s State of Maine room except for a “Lunch & Learn” session with the Portland Community Chamber in the Residence Inn on Fore Street.

The evening public session will be in the council’s chambers at City Hall beginning at 7:30 p.m.
