Waynflete youth lax clinic upcoming

Longtime Waynflete varsity lacrosse coaches Cathie Connors and Bob Johnson will be offering youth lacrosse clinics for boys and girls in grades 2-6 this spring at Waynflete’s Fore River Fields. Waynflete seeks field hockey coach

Waynflete School is seeking a varsity field hockey coach for the fall season. Experience coaching field hockey is required. Interested applicants should email a cover letter, resume and a list of three references to athletic director Ross Burdick at [email protected].

SMCC softball teams win a pair

The Southern Maine Community College softball team swept Vermont Tech in a doubleheader Saturday, 8-0 and 7-1. Kim Hunt threw a no-hitter in the opener, striking out 19. Jillian Withee went 5-for-7 at the plate and drove in four runs. The Seawolves return to action Saturday at home when they host Rhode Island CC in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.

Former Boston Bruins greats to play in all-star game

Former Boston Bruins standouts such as Kenny Linseman, Ken Hodge, Andy Brickley, Bobby Beers, Don Marcotte, Frank Siminetti and others will face local male and female high school all-stars Friday at 7 p.m. at the Cumberland County Civic Center. Hockey benefit upcoming

The Southern Maine Law Enforcement All-Stars hockey team will play the Bath Ironworks Iron Clad team in a benefit game for the Baxter School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing April 10 at  1 p.m. at the Cumberland County Civic Center. The game precedes the Portland Pirates’ contest versus Springfield at 4 p.m. Tickets are $13 and are good for admission to both games. FMI, [email protected].

Senior Softball League seeks new team

The Greater Portland Senior Men Softball League seeks players for a new team to join the league. Players must turn 50 before the end of 2011 and the league has special rules help avoid injuries. Portland Porpoise offerings

The Portland Porpoise swim club is offering a high school prep program this spring for swimmers who wish to continue their conditioning. Training will focus primarily on stroke technique, drills and general aerobic conditioning. The session runs April 25 through June 22. Practices are Sundays from 2-3:30 p.m., and Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30-5:00 p.m., at the Riverton Pool in Portland. There will also be open assessments and registration for new swimmers through May at the Riverton Community Center in Portland for children ages 6-8 interested in competitive swimming.
