AUGUSTA — Two thousand people filed into the Augusta Civic Center this afternoon for the funeral of Warden Pilot Daryl Gordon, who died in the line of duty in a plane crash on March 24 in northern Piscataquis County.

In attendance were game wardens from around New England and the Province of Quebec.

Gordon was a 25-year veteran of the Maine Warden Service, and worked out of the Eagle Lake seaplane base in Aroostook County.

Fifteen wardens have died in the line of duty in the Warden Service’s 131-year history, more than any law enforcement agency in Maine.
