AUGUSTA  — As the spring thaw begins, Maine officials are asking for residents’ help in reporting when the ice goes out on lakes and ponds.

The Department of Conservation is asking Mainers to send the ice-out dates for posting on its website so the public can have access to that information. The department’s Boating Facilities Division website already contains historical information for ice-out dates on major lakes going back to 2003.

People can e-mail the division when ice-out occurs on a specific water body so it can be posted. Ice-out information can be sent to Timothy.thurston@maine.gov
