BRUNSWICK — The developers of Maine Street Station announced this week that they have selected The Olympia Cos. of Portland to manage the new Inn at Brunswick Station.
“It was important to us to choose a local organization,” said J. Hilary Rockett, president of JHR Development.
One of the reasons JHR selected Olympia was the company’s history of managing hotels in college towns.
Olympia manages hotels in Durham, N.H., home of the University of New Hampshire, and Charlottesville, Va., where the University of Virginia is located. In the past, the company managed the Holiday Inn in Waterville, near Colby College.
“We’ve been in campus markets for a long time,” said John Schultzel, vice president of hotel management at Olympia.
He said his company has “a deep understanding of how to blend hotel services with specific needs of campuses.”
The company also manages the Inn by the Sea in Cape Elizabeth, and two Portland hotels, the Hilton Garden Inn and the Clarion Hotel.
In addition to hotel management, Olympia has other commercial projects in Portland, including 280 Fore St., a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-certified medical office building on Sewall Street, and the W.L. Black Building on Commercial Street.
Olympia was also one of two companies that competed to develop the Maine State Pier in Portland, a project that never came to fruition.
Schultzel said he expects the Brunswick inn to be open in early June, just missing Bowdoin’s graduation. But he still expects the hotel to capitalize on college events throughout the summer.
“We’re hoping to hit alumni weekend,” he said.
