CAMDEN — Maine State Police say the man and woman injured on Mount Megunticook fell from Maiden Cliff on the mountain’s backside in Camden Hills State Park.

Investigators say 52-year-old Lisa Black staggered to a road to summon help, and a Warden Service rescue dog led searchers to her husband, 68-year-old Charles “Reed” Black. Steve McCausland of the Maine Public Safety Department says Black was removed by stretcher.

Maiden Cliff, a popular hiking destination, is an 800-foot sheer drop that has a large cross erected at the top in memory of a girl who fell to her death in the 1800s.

McCausland says both husband and wife are being treated at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. He says the retired schoolteachers from Missouri moved to Camden in the past year.
