PORTLAND – The Portland Sea Dogs got a rare weekend off after Saturday’s game with the New Britain Rock Cats was rained out.

The Sea Dogs are not playing today because of Easter. They will resume their homestand Monday with a 6 p.m. game against the Binghamton Mets at Hadlock Field.

This was the fourth rainout for the Sea Dogs, and the second at home. Their April 13 game against Trenton was postponed and will be made up as part of a doubleheader on May 28.

The make-up date for Saturday’s rainout has not been determined. The Rock Cats return to Hadlock Field three more times this season.

Fans with tickets to Saturday’s game can exchange them for another game this season. Call the Sea Dogs ticket office at 879-9500 for more information.

The Binghamton Mets will be making their first visit to Portland this season, for four games, concluding with a noon game on Thursday. Before Wednesday’s game, Jon Lester bobblehead dolls will be given out to the first 1,000 fans through the gate.

Portland (5-8) lost two games to the Mets in Binghamton last week. Another game was rained out. The Mets, also 5-8, had their game in New Hampshire on Saturday rained out.

Sea Dogs right-hander Stephen Fife (2-0, 2.70 ERA), who was scheduled to pitch Saturday, will start Monday’s game. He has been Portland’s most effective starter, allowing nine hits and three runs over 10 innings, striking out four.

Brandon Moore (0-0, 7.00) will start Monday for Binghamton. He gave up four runs in 41/3 innings last week against the Sea Dogs, in a non-decision.

Binghamton is managed by former Mets infielder Wally Backman.
