LEBANON — An 80-year-old man from Lebanon had to be transported by helicopter to a New Hampshire hospital after suffering a gunshot wound late Thursday night.

Maine State Police are investigating the incident, which was reported around 9 p.m. at a home on Lower Barley Street.

Jason Cole, the town of Lebanon’s assistant rescue chief, said a town ambulance transported the man to Skyhaven Airport in Rochester, N.H., where he was flown by helicopter to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

The helicopter could not land at Maine Medical Center in Portland due to heavy fog conditions, Cole said.

“His injuries are life-threatening,” Cole said.

The cause of the shooting remains under investigation.
