PORTLAND — Residents can cast absentee ballots on the school budget referendum this Saturday, May 7.

The school budget for 2011-12 has been approved by the Portland School Committee and the City Council but it also needs to be approved by a majority of voters to take effect.

The city clerk’s office in Portland City Hall will be open for absentee voting from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. Absentee voting is also available today through Friday and on Monday, May 9, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., in the clerk’s office, which is on the second floor of City Hall.

If absentee ballots are taken out, they must be returned to the clerk’s office by 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10.

Polls will be open on Tuesday, May 10, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

For more information on voting, call the clerk’s office at 874-8677. A list of polling places is also available online.
